Damage vs Damageable Types

TerraTech Update 1.4.22 introduced some really useful quality-of-life improvements, including a new quick select feature and new damage and damageable types in block descriptions.

We’ve had some questions on what exactly the damage and damageable types are so I wanted to take this opportunity to explain these concepts in more detail. The Damage Type is pretty straightforward. Every weapon block in TerraTech has a type of damage it deals with when it hits.

Our Junior Designer, Taku, had this to say about the design process behind the new Damage and Damageable types:

With damage & damageable types we want to present players with easy to understand indications/cues that showcase specific properties of blocks and scenery objects in TerraTech. Every weapon block in TerraTech has a type of damage it deals with when it hits something. Damage types dictate whether a hit is effective or ineffective against certain damageable types. Every destructible object in TerraTech whether it’s a block or scenery object has a damageable type assigned to it. A damageable type dictates the resistance an object has against a hit from certain damage types. With this information, players are able to build Techs that take advantage of damage and damageable types

Here is a list of each damage type:

  • Standard
  • Bullet (Ballistic)
  • Energy
  • Explosive (Blast)
  • Impact
  • Fire
  • Cutting
  • Plasma
  • Electric

As for the damageable types, every destructible object in TerraTech whether it’s a block or scenery object has a damageable type assigned to it. A damageable type dictates the resistance an object has against certain damage types.

Here is a list of each damageable type:

  • Standard
  • Armour
  • Rubber
  • Volatile
  • Shield (energy)
  • Wood
  • Rock
  • Compound

A damage type dictates whether a weapon is effective or ineffective against certain damageable types. This handy chart shows exactly what damageable types resist which damage type and by how much.

So for example, using anything but a standard or electric type damage against compound resource givers (these are more commonly known as Scrap Piles) won’t have any effect. Likewise, using impact weapons against armour or rubber-type blocks will weak but will be very strong against shield, wood, and rock types.
